CHESLYN HAY & GREAT WYRLEY FLOWER CLUB NAFAS EDUCATION EXHIBIT |
|
For the 2006 National Show in Telford, NAFAS invited Susan Humphries and Marilyn Farmer to arrange the Education Exhibit. Inspired by visits to Coalbrookdale Museum of Iron and Blists Hill Open Air Museum, they chose to depict the process of iron smelting.
The top of the exhibit represents the flames, fuelled by the coke used to heat the ore to extract the iron. A runnel along which the molten metal runs is depicted using a horizontal frame through the main vertical frame. The "molten metal" then pours off the runnel and into the mould on the floor.
